2009 Community Elections

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Community Elections will be held February 21, 2009. In this election, eight new members of the Grogan's Mill Village board will be chosen.

You can see a list of those candidates that have filed on this Web site. Bruce Cunningham, Franklin Palmer, Sally Johnson, Nick Ransford, Deborah Sargeant, Lily Weiss, Jim Upham, Bill Sargeant and Matt Beasley have filed for Grogan's Mill Board positions. Please also consider Bob Leilich as a write in candidate.

Convenience (early) voting continues through Friday, February 20, 2009, at the Community Associations Building on Lake Woodlands Drive. Convenience voting hours are Wednesday and Friday 9 A.M. to 5 P.M., Tuesday and Thursday, from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. The GMV polling place location on election day, Feb. 21st is Fire Station #3 at 1522 Sawdust Road.

Improved Fire Department ISO Rating Can Reduce Your Homeowners Insurance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The Woodlands fire department ISO rating will be changed from a 4 to a 2 on June 1. This improved rating indicates that the rating agency (see this page if you want more information) has rated our fire services as some of the best in the nation. Less than one percent of all communities have a rating this high. While insurance companies will be notified of the change it maybe in your interest to alert your insurance company to this change. It could lower your fire insurance rate by about 6% according to estimates.

Interfaith Offers Assistance to Seniors

If you are a Senior and need some help around the home Interfaith offers assistance.

Saturday, March 7th is Serving our Seniors day at Interfaith, a day designed to assist seniors with gardening, minor house cleaning, minor home repair, painting, yard work. If you or someone you know is interested you can get more information at www.woodlandsinterfaith.org.

Work Continues on a Path along North Deerfoot
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The GMVA, with Jim Upham leading the effort, is trying to have a path developed along North Deerfoot so that children can have safe access along the street to Lamar. If you would like to help or get involved contact Jim via the GMVA web site.

Spring Flea Market in March

The Spring Flea Market takes place on March 28, Town Center parking garage, with booth spaces going on sale on March 7 at the Panther Creek Shopping Center.

The popular GMVA Farmer's Market returns to the Grogan Mill Village Center every Saturday beginning March 21st, 8 AM to 12 Noon. Future newsletters will detail our returning and new vendors for the Spring Market. If you are a potential vendor, visit our Web site for more information and the application form.

GMVA Planning meeting is being held on March 7th from 8am - noon. Residents are invited to come and participate because this is when the GMVA sets its agenda for the coming year. You can make a difference in your community by participating.

GMVA Donates to the Community

GMVA gave $250 last month to each of the four schools in the village. The money will be used by the principals to support non-funded activities.

GMVA also gave Interfaith of The Woodlands $500 to support their community service activities in providing food, shelter and other basic services to the community.

GMVA will be providing at least one scholarship this year for a student going to college. GMVA will announce and publish on our Web site the criteria for the scholarship after our planning meeting.

Friends of Texas Wildlife

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Friends of Texas Wildlife is an all volunteer non-profit organization based in The Woodlands. They rehabilitate orphaned and injured wildlife and release them back into the wild and do it all free of charge. The organization receives no state or federal funding and rely solely on donations to feed, house and medicate our wildlife.

Hurricane Ike depleted the group's resources because they took in hundreds of animals that they normally would not have taken in. Friends of Texas Wildlife is asking for the community's help to raise funds. If you are interested in helping, please contact Cheryl Meyer.
