It is with great sadness that the GMVA
announces the passing of Bill Sargent.
Dr.
William Sargent, an elected representative to the Grogan's Mill
Village Association Board of Directors, died on Friday, June 10
after suffering a traumatic head injury from a fall. Bill was an
active member of the GMVA Board of Directors. He chaired the Bylaws
Committee, served on the Communications Committee and could always
be counted on to volunteer at the many events the Grogan's Mill
Village Association participated in. Bill Sargent moved to the Woodlands
in March of 1975, about 5 months after the Woodlands opened and
he served as the first President of the Grogan's Mill Village Association.
We will miss him and his dry sense of humor.
Bill Sargent joined the University of St. Thomas's Cameron School
of Business faculty in 1987 as an associate professor of marketing
and retired in 2008. He was active not only in the Cameron School,
but served as a leader to the entire campus community. Sargent taught
introductory courses in marketing, sales management and statistics
as well retail management, market research, marketing strategies
and consumer economics.
Sargent earned a Bachelor of Business Administration at Texas A&M
University, a Master in Business Administration at Miami University
in Ohio and a doctorate at Ohio State University. Prior to joining
the UST faculty in 1987, he taught at Stephen F. Austin State
University, the University of Houston, Ohio State University and
Miami University in Ohio.
A memorial service for Bill will be held at The Chapel of St.
Basil, University of St. Thomas, on West Alabama, Houston, Texas
at 4 PM on Friday, August 26, 2011. A reception following the
service will be held at the Ahern Room located in the Crooker
Center on campus.
The family will commemorate Bill's service to the university
with an engraved plaque. In lieu of flowers, gifts will support
student scholarships. Checks should be made out to University
of St. Thomas (Memo: Bill Sargent Scholarship Funds) and mailed
to the Office of Institutional Advancement, 3800 Montrose Blvd.,
Houston, TX 77006.

Bill Sargent, Dana Denton, and Deborah Sargeant
at the Grogan's Mill Farmer's Market.
